A Record-Breaking Year for Canada Immigration
Canada welcomed a record-breaking number of immigrants in 2022. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced on January 3, 2023, that Canada hit its target number of 431,645 immigrants for the year. Canada marks another all-time record for welcoming over 437,000 new immigrants.
In 2022, IRCC processed approximately 5.2 million permanent, temporary, and citizenship applications. That’s double the number of applications processed in 2021.
The government is planning to settle more immigrants to help address labour shortages in various sectors. The new target is to bring in 465,000 new permanent residents in 2023, 485,000 in 2024, and 500,000 in 2025.
The IRCC team and employees received high recognition for their dedication to hitting another milestone for Canada immigration.
“Today marks an important milestone for Canada, setting a new record for newcomers welcomed in a single year. It is a testament to the strength and resilience of our country and its people. Newcomers play an essential role in filling labour shortages, bringing new perspectives and talents to our communities, and enriching our society as a whole. I am excited to see what the future holds and look forward to another historic year in 2023 as we continue to welcome newcomers.”
